NOC Issued for Dhakoli Railway Underpass Construction

District Administration Mohali has issued NOC to Railway Authority regarding closure of railway crossing for construction of Dhakoli Railway Underpass with certain conditions in public interest. Giving information in this regard, Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Ashika Jain said that so that local residents do not face any inconvenience, Railway authorities have been requested to provide adequate space for traffic in front of the buildings adjoining the service lane of the proposed RUB. Dhakoli should be constructed on both sides so that access to the existing building on the road is not obstructed.
Apart from this, footpaths on both sides of the RUB should be covered with sheds of suitable material so that rain water does not collect inside the RUB and its access road. Similarly, adequate drainage of water inside the RCC box structure by installing rain harvesting system or any other suitable system to prevent water accumulation has also been sought. To avoid any traffic congestion in future, Railway authorities have been asked to keep the carriageway of the RCC box structure along with the existing access roads on both sides not lower than the existing structure. Besides, an alternate route has been sought for the convenience of the general public, ensuring smooth and safe passage for vehicles and pedestrians. Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain said the alternate route should be clearly marked and people should be informed about it through proper sign boards. Besides, the railway authority has also been asked to conduct a public awareness campaign to inform nearby residents and commuters about the closure of railway crossings and to operationalise the available and suitable alternate routes by disclosing the minimum number of days before the closure notice is given. DC Ashika Jain said the NOC would be valid for a period of one year from the date of issue and added that the railway authorities will have to strictly adhere to all the conditions while disposing of the work.
