On Monday, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar laid the foundation stone for an ambitious drinking water supply scheme in Dehri town, located in Rohtas district. This project, estimated at ₹1347.32 crore, aims to provide clean drinking water to the residents of Aurangabad, Dehri, and Sasaram towns, using surface water from the Sone river.

Project Details

The scheme involves constructing a pump station to draw water from the Sone river, a refinery unit to purify the water, and an extensive pipeline system to deliver the water to the three towns. This initiative is crucial, given the ongoing decline in groundwater levels and the resulting water scarcity in several areas of South Bihar, particularly in the Kaimur plateau regions of Aurangabad, Rohtas, and Kaimur districts.

Inauguration of Excellence Centre

During the event at the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Dehri, the Chief Minister also inaugurated Bihar’s first Excellence Centre, operated by TATA Technologies. This centre, established under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Labour Resource Department, will provide advanced training in 23 fields, including robotics, computer programming, and software, to unemployed youth.

Support for the Landless

In addition to the water project, CM Nitish Kumar distributed ownership papers for homestead land to 2,000 landless individuals at Bhaisaha village in Dehri block, furthering his commitment to supporting the underprivileged.

Dignitaries Present

Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Chaudhary, Water Resources Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, and other dignitaries were present at the occasion, highlighting the importance of these initiatives in improving the living standards in the region.
