A Naxal commander with an 8 lakh rupee bounty on his head was discovered dead in Jiakorta forest near Bhusaras valley in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district.
Deva alias Tirri Madkam, the naxal commander, was found dead with weapons next to him on Tuesday in a jungle inside the boundaries of the Kuakonda police station, according to the police. Deva belonged to the Darbha Division’s Katekalyan Area Committee of the CPI Maoist. He was the subject of more than nine criminal cases in the districts of Dantewada and Sukma.
A joint team from the Dantewada police and CRPF 230 battalion arrived at the scene and identified the deceased after receiving information about the event, according to Inspector General of Police (IG) Bastar Range, P Sundarraj. It was initially believed that Deva had perished as a result of intra-Naxalite conflict or Naxalite anti-people operations. He stressed that the postmortem report would reveal the precise cause, though.
Further investigations are under way.
