On Monday, Mumbai recorded its second-highest July rainfall in 24 hours, with a very heavy 300 mm of rain in just six hours. From midnight to 3 am on Tuesday, the city recorded 170 mm of rainfall. The red alert for Mumbai is expected to remain in effect until 8:30 am.
Despite installing high-capacity pumps in flood-prone areas, Central Railway services have been significantly delayed due to waterlogging caused by incessant rains. This has grounded thousands of passengers, with local trains halted on tracks for extended durations. Flight operations have also been impacted by low visibility and waterlogging on runways, resulting in more than 50 flight cancellations on Monday, according to Press Trust of India [PTI].
In response to a heavy rainfall alert issued by the India Meteorological Department [IMD] for Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Panvel, Pune, and rural areas of Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg, schools and junior colleges will remain closed on Tuesday as well. The weather office has issued a red alert for Mumbai, Ratnagiri, Raigad, Satara, Pune, and Sindhudurg districts, and an orange alert for Thane and Palghar Tuesday for now that is July 9, it may even extend keeping in mind about the Weather.
