Mumbai Engineer Orders Rs 55,000 Smartphone From Amazon, Receives ‘Tea-rrible’ Surprise

In yet another instance of an Amazon delivery gone awry, a 42-year-old Mahim resident in Mumbai claims he received a set of tea cups instead of the Rs 55,000 smartphone he had ordered online. According to a PTI report, the customer has lodged a police complaint against Amazon, alleging fraud. Reports indicate that Amar Chavan had ordered a Tecno Phantom V Fold 5G from Amazon.

What Exactly Happened

Amar Chavan, a deputy engineer at Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST), placed an order for a Tecno Phantom V Fold 5G smartphone worth Rs 54,999 from Amazon. The delivery arrived on July 15, but instead of the phone, Chavan found a set of tea cups inside the parcel.

He further alleges that the e-tailer failed to provide any customer support. “I called up the shopping portal and complained… They assured they would probe and revert but did not revert till July 20. When I called them up, they expressed helplessness and refused to give me their investigation report after which I approached the police,” said Chavan.

He asserts that the online portal is showing no interest in investigating the case. He informed PTI that he has given the police CCTV footage of the delivery person.

In a separate incident last month, a woman in Bengaluru discovered a snake in her Amazon package. Tanvi had ordered a Microsoft Xbox controller from Amazon India, but upon opening the parcel, she was shocked to find a snake inside.

She also shared a video on X writing: “Ordered an Xbox controller from @amazonIN and received a free snake with it!” The woman and her husband claimed that Amazon’s customer support put them on hold for over two hours, forcing them to handle the situation all by themselves “in the middle of the night.”
