A mini truck fell into a river in Madhya Pradesh’s Datia on Wednesday, killing at least 5 people and injuring several others, according to a police official. At around 6 a.m. on Wednesday, the incident occurred near Buhara village within the Dursada police station limits in the district.

These people were going to attend a wedding function in Jatara in Tikamgarh district from Bilheti village in Gwalior district,” Datia Collector Sanjay Kumar said.

Three children, a young man, and a woman were among those killed. When the police learned about the incident, they rushed to the scene and began the rescue operation, transporting the survivors to the district hospital.

According to family members, there may be one more person still in the river for whom rescue efforts are underway, he added. Speaking further, he stated that there was an under-construction bridge on the site and that the vehicle driver was primarily to blame, but that the construction agency should have placed a caution board at the diversion point.

He added that an investigation is underway and that further action will be taken as needed.
Meanwhile, state home minister Narottam Mishra announced that Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has taken cognizance of the accident and has announced financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh each to the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each to the injured.
