Monsoon mayhem: Why your skin breaks out & how to manage it

The monsoon season comes with many aesthetics, however glowing, happy skin, is unfortunately not one of them. The shift in weather, characterized by high humidity, fluctuating temperatures, and increased pollution, dampness creates an ideal breeding ground for bacteria and fungi, leading to clogged pores, inflammation and 100 other skin problems.
The change isn’t just about a few extra pimples. The increase humidity and This season, while refreshing can create havoc for your skin. But fear not, understating why behind those “breakouts and pimples” is the first step to banishing them.

Why your Skin freaks out in
monsoon?
=Humidity Overload: All the moisture due to humidity clogs your pores and makes your skin red and angry.
=Oil Slick: The humid air tells your skin to pump more oil, clogging up the pores and leading to breakout.
=Sweat Traps: When sweat is combined with the dirt and oil, the clogging gets worse resulting in more breakouts.
Dr Aparna Santhanam says, “Think of your monsoon skincare routine as a balancing act. You want to keep your skin clean and exfoliated without stripping away its natural moisture barrier. A gentle cleanser, a mild exfoliant, and a hydrating, oil-free moisturizer are your best allies. And never underestimate the power of a good sunscreen, even on a cloudy day!”
Whilst a consistent skincare routine forms the foundation of a healthy skin, sometimes the skin needs a little extra help to target those stubborn, individual blemishes. That is where acne spot correctors come in. These spot correctors can be the secret weapon, but using them correctly is the key:

=Less is more: Start with tiny amount and gently dab it onto the blemish. Avoid rubbing or applying to the surrounding skin.
=Timing is everything: Apply spot treatment after cleansing and toning but before moisturiser and sunscreen.
=Ingredients Matter: Look for spot correctors containing salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, tea tree oil, or niacinamide. These ingredients target different aspects of acne formation. Dr Aparna adds, “A powerful ingredient to look for is Azelaic Acid. Spot Correctors with Active-rich AzeAct formula, delivers a multi-pronged targeted action against acne lesions.”
=Consistency is the key: Continue using the spot corrector, and don’t pick or squeeze the pimple.
If the skin experience severs persistent breakouts, or if it is accompanied by pain or discomfort, it is crucial to seek advice from a dermatologist. A skincare professional can provide tailored recommendations, which may include prescription medications or specialized in-office treatments designed to address your specific needs.
Maintaining clear and healthy skin during changing seasons requires a consistent and well-adapted skincare routine. By strategically incorporating acne spot correctors and following a regimen suited to the season, you can effectively manage and reduce acne, ensuring that the skin remains balanced and vibrant regardless of external factors.
