Mehbooba Mufti Condemns Doda Attack, Criticizes DGP's Political Motivations

Mehbooba Mufti, former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and President of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), strongly denounced the recent attack in Doda that claimed the lives of several soldiers and officers.

Kashmir: Mehbooba Mufti, former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and President of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), strongly denounced the recent attack in Doda that claimed the lives of several soldiers and officers. In a blistering press conference, she demanded the immediate removal of the Director General of Police (DGP), accusing him of political bias and failure to uphold security.

Condemnation of the Doda Attack

Mufti began, “The events in Doda yesterday are deeply condemnable. We lost brave soldiers and officers in this attack. These are places that have not experienced terrorism firsthand. The DGP should be removed immediately.”

Highlighting the severity of recent incidents, Mufti noted, “Nearly 50 soldiers have lost their lives in recent attacks,” expressing dismay over the worsening security situation.

Criticism of the DGP

Mufti accused the DGP of prioritizing political interests over security concerns. “The DGP is preoccupied with political fixes. His agenda is to suppress the PDP and intimidate journalists,” she alleged.

She emphasized the negative impact on various segments of society, including religious and legal communities. “Our clerics and BAR association members are being harassed. We need a DGP who can lead, not one who plays politics. We’ve had many DGPs in the past, but none have acted like this.”

Moreover, she accused the police of internal corruption and intimidation. “Even within the police force, files are being tampered with and individuals are being blackmailed,” Mufti claimed, suggesting manipulation of the police for political purposes.

Historical Context and Political Position

Mufti invoked historical figures to underscore the importance of dialogue and peace. “They should remember their former Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani, who held dialogues here,” she emphasized, stressing the need for peace and dialogue over political maneuvering.

Wide-ranging Critique of BJP’s Rule

Mehbooba Mufti also criticized the BJP’s governance in the region at large. “For the past six years, the BJP has dominated the narrative here. They control everything. Even Hurriyat leaders are imprisoned. So what exactly are they achieving here?” she questioned, challenging the effectiveness of BJP policies.

Mufti accused the BJP of failing to fulfill its promises and attempting to shift blame onto regional parties. “What have they accomplished in the last six years? Now they want to deflect their failures onto regional parties,” she asserted.

Call for Accountability

In conclusion, Mufti called for immediate accountability and a change in leadership. “He should be removed,” she demanded, referring to the DGP, as a necessary step to restore order and prioritize the security and well-being of the people in the region.

The press conference underscored Mehbooba Mufti’s profound concerns about the current state of affairs in Jammu and Kashmir and her call for a return to effective, impartial governance.
