Maya Jama To King Charles: I Host Love Island, I Don’t Know If You Watch That Though

After returning to his royal duties post a cancer diagnosis, King Charles hosted his second garden party of the year at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday. However, this time, the monarch had an unexpected encounter with Love Island host Maya Jama.

The King and Queen organized a Creative Industries Garden Party to showcase the UK’s creative arts sector, drawing more than 4,000 guests.

Maya Jama, dressed impeccably in a blue checked dress paired with a matching hat and black heels, was spotted chatting with the King about the reality TV show.

While introducing herself to the King, she said: “I host Love Island, I don’t know if you watch that though. That’s like a reality dating show. That’s what I do.”

The King, seeming unfamiliar with the show, commented, “There’s One Born Every Minute,” alluding to the popular Channel 4 soap depicting the events in a maternity unit. Jama responded with a simple “There is, yeah.”

During their casual conversation, the British television presenter and radio DJ also mentioned to the monarch that she was soon departing for Spain to film the latest season of the show and observe some “young people snog.”

The TV host further assured the King that she wouldn’t breach royal protocol by touching him as she had done previously.

She recalled her last meeting with the King, stating that “I’ve actually met you before, a long time ago.” “About something with the Princes’ Trust and I touched you. I wasn’t supposed to. This time I won’t,” she quipped.

The King laughed and said, “Don’t worry about it,” to which Jama replied, “You don’t mind, yeah?”

Are there any mandatory rules of conduct when meeting the King?

The Royal Family website states that there are “no obligatory codes of behaviour – just courtesy.”

Kate Moss, Tracey Emin, Lenny Henry, and Sir Ridley Scott were among the various cultural, artistic, cinematic, television, radio, and fashion figures invited to the lavish event.

Queen Camilla appeared regal for the event, wearing a dusty pink mid-length dress by Anna Valentine and carrying a Moynat bag priced at over £2,700, as reported by GB News.

The King opted for a three-piece grey suit, accentuating his spouse’s attire with a pink vest and patterned tie.

Reacting to the Royal family’s post on Instagram about the party, one social media user wrote: “Queen Camilla looks lovely in pink. The King wears a nice matching waistcoat. Smart couple. Good team.”
