Masih is not eligible to be nominated councillor: Kuldeep Kumar

Stepping up his protest against nominated councillor Anil Masih for allegedly rigging the mayoral election, Chandigarh Mayor Kuldeep Kumar has written a letter to Municipal Corporation Commissioner Anindita Mitra, asking her to take up the issue with the Chandigarh Administration, of not considering him as a nominated councillor.

The mayor’s move comes days after a ruckus broke out at the MC General House meeting over Masih’s presence, which eventually led to an abrupt end to the proceedings.
In the letter, Kumar stated, “It has come to my notice that Anil Masih, a nominated councillor of the municipal corporation, has submitted an affidavit in the Supreme Court in the case of vote tampering during the mayoral election this year that his mental health is not good. As per the affidavit given by Masih, he is not fit to attend the general house meetings and other meetings of the corporation. Therefore, it is proposed that the matter be taken up with the secretary of local government to cancel the nomination of Anil Masih as nominated councillor.”

BJP sources said that Masih was kept away for a long time to keep him away from the previous controversy related to the mayoral election in March. A BJP leader said, “He has suffered a lot and hence he will now regularly attend meetings and participate in affairs.” Kumar said, “It is true that Anil Masih has given a statement that his mental condition is not good. And if he feels better mentally, then he should get an affidavit or certificate from PGI.”
