The Indian Army, in collaboration with the Manipur Police, successfully conducted two intelligence-based joint operations on September 21, resulting in the recovery of illegal arms and warlike stores from Churachandpur and the fringe areas of Thoubal and Imphal East districts. According to an official statement released on Saturday, these operations are part of the Indian Army’s ongoing efforts to restore peace in the region through the demilitarization of the local population.

Details of the Operations

In the first operation, a joint team of the Indian Army and Churachandpur Police conducted a search in the heavily forested upper areas of Thangjing Ridge in Churachandpur District. The search led to the recovery of two 9mm pistols, two pistol magazines, a single-barrel rifle, two locally fabricated rockets measuring 5.5 and 3 feet, a modified long-range mortar, two modified medium-range mortars, four mortar bombs, nine rounds of 9mm ammunition, 6.2 kg of Grade Two explosives, and other warlike stores.

In a separate operation, based on specific intelligence inputs, a team of the Indian Army and Manipur Police searched Changbi Village, located in the fringe areas of Thoubal and Imphal East districts. This operation resulted in the recovery of two carbine machine guns, two pistols, a single-barrel gun, nine hand grenades, eleven rounds of small arms ammunition, and other warlike stores.

Cooperation Between Army and Police

The successful recovery of arms and explosives underscores the strong coordination between the Indian Army and local law enforcement agencies. The recovered arms and warlike stores have been handed over to the Manipur Police for further investigation and legal proceedings, reflecting the joint efforts to ensure the safety and security of the region.

Additional Security Measures

In addition to these operations, on September 20, security forces conducted search operations and area domination activities in vulnerable and fringe areas of the hill and valley districts. The movement of essential supplies was facilitated along NH-37 and NH-2, ensuring the transit of 176 and 224 vehicles, respectively.

Manipur Police reported that strict security measures are in place across vulnerable locations, with security convoys provided along sensitive routes. A total of 109 checkpoints were established across different districts, but no individuals were detained for violations, according to the Manipur Police statement.
