"Mamata Banerjee Has Failed": BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal Criticizes West Bengal CM Over Doctor Protests

BJP leader Praveen Khandelwal has sharply criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her handling of the rape and murder case involving a postgraduate trainee doctor from Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Khandelwal accused Banerjee of failing to take timely action and address the protests that erupted in response to the incident.

Khandelwal questioned why Banerjee did not engage with the protesting doctors sooner, saying, “Where was Mamata Banerjee when the doctors were protesting? She could have arranged a meeting earlier. Her failure in this matter is evident, and she did not take the necessary steps.”

He also referenced former TMC MP Jawhar Sircar’s resignation from both the party and the Rajya Sabha, stating that Banerjee needs to address the concerns raised by Sircar to restore public trust. Khandelwal asserted, “Jawhar Sircar displayed courage by resigning, and Mamata Banerjee must respond to his questions to maintain trust. A national leader who prioritizes political gain over trust cannot be expected to provide answers.”

In a separate statement, Khandelwal condemned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s comments on Sikh issues, accusing him of spreading misinformation. “Those involved in corruption and mismanagement should be the ones afraid, not ordinary citizens. Rahul Gandhi’s remarks are a reaction to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s growing popularity. His narrative of fear is misleading and irresponsible, especially coming from a Leader of Opposition,” Khandelwal said.

Earlier, during his visit to Virginia, Rahul Gandhi had remarked that the real issue is whether Sikhs will be allowed to wear turbans, carry a kada, and visit Gurdwaras in India, framing it as a broader struggle for religious freedom.
