Early Monday morning, Ishikawa Prefecture in Japan was struck by a magnitude 5.9 earthquake, as reported by the Japan Meteorological Agency. The earthquake, which occurred at approximately 6:31 am, had its epicentre at a depth of 10 kilometres.
The cities of Wajima and Suzu in Ishikawa Prefecture experienced the most significant tremors, registering an intensity of upper 5 on Japan’s seismic scale. Nearby areas also felt the quake, with Noto town experiencing tremors of lower 5 intensity, while Nanao city, Anamizu town, and some regions in Niigata Prefecture recorded an intensity of 4.
In the immediate aftermath of this magnitude 5.9 earthquake, East Japan Railway temporarily suspended services on the Hokuriku Shinkansen and Joetsu Shinkansen bullet train lines due to a power outage. However, services were swiftly restored and resumed at 6:50 am, according to NHK.
Authorities have confirmed that there is no risk of a tsunami following the earthquake. The Japan Meteorological Agency and local officials continue to monitor the situation, ensuring the safety and well-being of residents in the affected areas.
