A 25-year-old Dalit man, identified as Madan S from Pillaganahalli, allegedly took his own life at his lover’s residence in Mandi Layout near CK Palya on Bannerghatta Road. The incident occurred on Tuesday, and his family has accused his lover, Veena, of pushing him into this extreme step by harassing him to marry her.

Case Background

Veena, also known as Vardhini Yallarematt, is a TV serial actor from Shivamogga, while Madan worked at an event management company. According to Hulimavu police, they have registered a case against Veena under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) (abetment to suicide) and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Veena has been detained for questioning.

Incident Details

Veena called the police helpline at 9 pm, informing authorities that Madan had hanged himself in her bathroom. When police arrived, they found him lying on the floor of the room. Veena explained that she cut the noose, believing Madan was still alive, and attempted to take him to the hospital.

The Relationship Between Madan and Veena

Madan and Veena had been in a live-in relationship for a year. They first met when Madan worked on decorating a TV serial set. Initially, Veena was in a relationship with someone else, and Madan acted as a middleman during their disputes. Eventually, Madan and Veena grew closer and started living together. However, their relationship became strained when Madan refused to marry her. Veena had previously harmed herself by cutting her wrists and created a scene at Madan’s house, demanding that his parents convince him to marry her.

Events Leading to the Tragic Incident

On the day of the incident, Madan visited Veena’s house in the evening. According to Veena, they were partying when the topic of marriage came up again, leading to an argument. She claimed Madan said he was leaving at around 8:30 pm, but shortly after, she discovered him hanging in the bathroom. A police officer stated, “We found seven used Breezer bottles in the hall.” Due to the atrocity charges, an assistant commissioner of police will lead the investigation.
