Polling for the sixth phase of the general elections is taking place today in 58 constituencies across six states and two Union territories, including all 10 seats of Haryana and seven seats of Delhi are polling in this round of voting. The voting, which started at 7 am, is also being held on 14 seats of Uttar Pradesh, eight seats each of Bihar and West Bengal, six seats in Odisha, 4 seats in Jharkhand and one seat of Jammu and Kashmir. In this phase, 889 candidates are contending for seats. The Election Commission has approved 12 alternative identification documents in addition to the Voter ID card (EPIC) for voter verification at polling stations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday encouraged people to vote in large numbers as phase 6 of the Lok Sabha elections 2024 commenced. In his poll day message on X, he stated, “Every vote counts, make yours count too.”

Delhi recorded a voter turnout of 44.58% at 3 pm in the sixth phase of Lok Sabha election. North-east Delhi recorded the most polling at 47.85%, followed by North-west Delhi at 44.78%, West Delhi at 44.91%, East Delhi at 44.7%, Chandni Chowk at 43.24%, South Delhi at 42.96%, and New Delhi at 42.17%.

ITPO Chairman Pradeep Singh Kharola says, “My mother has come with me to cast her vote. She is 99 years old and has exercised her right to vote keeping in mind the development of the nation… Voting is a very important right and everyone must exercise this right.”

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi expressed his hope that PM Narendra Modi does not secure a third term as Prime Minister. Commenting on Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement regarding Muslim reservation, Owaisi warned, “He (Amit Shah) will end the reservation for everyone. He will end the constitution also.”

RJD Candidate from Vaishali, Vijay Kumar Shukla says,” I urge the public to vote for removing unemployment, inflation..Reservation, farming and form the government of ‘mahagathbandhan’….I am confident of my victory….”

Senior doctors and staff of the Army Research and Referral Hospital led by Commandant Lt Gen Ajith Nilkanthan exercised their voting rights at different polling in Delhi Cantt and other areas.

Chief Electoral Officer Maharashtra says, “It is noticed that some old video from other states are getting circulated through social media showing miscreants trying to vitiate the poll process and particularly tampering with EVM. It is clarified that such videos are not related to Lok Sabha Elections 2024 in Maharashtra. The poll in the state is completed smoothly and peacefully.”

Former Union Minister Maneka Gandhi, who is a sitting BJP MP from the seat, urged people to vote in large numbers. She said results on June 4 will be in favour of BJP. “I not a fortune teller. All I can tell is the results that will be coming on June 4 will be in favour of BJP,” she stated.

Vardhan criticized other parties, including Congress, for preventing stable governments and highlighted the need for stability. After casting his vote, MP & BJP candidate from North-East Delhi, Manoj Tiwari says, ” This vote is in the interest of the nation and every person is standing with Modi ji. The people of Opposition have given their introduction…People like Kanhaiya Kumar celebrate when our paramilitary forces personnel lay down their lives fighting naxals. It is only Narendra Modi who is in the race, people will not waste their vote by giving it to anyone else.”

PDP chief and candidate from the Anantnag–Rajouri Lok Sabha seat, Mehbooba Mufti, claimed that there were false accusations being made and that efforts were being made to rig the elections. She stated that these actions were intended to instill fear in the people to discourage Kashmiris from voting. Mufti asserted that if the people of South Kashmir turned out to vote, she would win and go to parliament, which her opponents could not tolerate.

 

Congress candidate from North East Delhi, Kanhaiya Kumar, expressed confidence that Congress would secure 3 seats and AAP would win 4 seats in Delhi. He noted the great enthusiasm among the people and stated that the massive voter turnout indicated a desire for change. Kumar mentioned issues with some EVMs not working at several locations but hoped that the Election Commission of India would resolve these issues promptly. He also remarked that when people talk about “400 paar,” they are referring to the price of petrol, not the number of seats.

The Election Commission of India reported an approximate voter turnout of 10.82% in the 58 constituencies voting today, till 9 am. West Bengal registered a turnout of 16.5%, Uttar Pradesh recorded 12.3%, Delhi saw 8.9%, and the Anantnag Rajouri seat in Jammu and Kashmir had 8.8%. Additionally, 42 assembly constituencies in Odisha are also holding elections alongside the Lok Sabha elections today.
