A Los Angeles singer, Jillian Lavin, risked her career and spent thousands of dollars to move to Texas and live with her boyfriend of 3.5 years, only to be dumped two months later. The breakup came via a short, handwritten note in which her boyfriend declared they were “incompatible.”

“It was pretty disappointing that it was such a short f–king note,” Lavin shared with the New York Post. “As soon as he pulled it out of his pocket, I knew. Who just hands you a note and says, ‘I think this says everything’?”

Turned Heartbreak Into Music

To cope with her heartbreak, Lavin wrote a song about the experience and posted it on TikTok and Instagram. The video quickly went viral, garnering millions of views and reactions from sympathetic listeners.

Lavin told The Cut that she believed their 3.5-year relationship, which began in California, was “amazing,” and they had been planning a future together. “How did I not notice? Three-and-a-half years of happiness and we have been incompatible the whole time?” she sings in her viral post. Lavin had spent her savings and gave up her rented home to move in with her boyfriend. However, two months after settling in, things changed when her boyfriend returned from a family vacation and handed her the breakup note, claiming they had nothing in common.

“He said that by the time we moved to Texas together, he had fallen out of love with me,” Lavin explained to The Cut. She expressed frustration, saying it was his fault for “bottling up” his concerns. The breakup left Lavin feeling “shattered,” leading her to take a two-month social media break before finally sharing her story.

Fans on social media urged Lavin to release her song on streaming platforms like Spotify. One Instagram user commented, “This new Taylor Swift song is a banger,” while another encouraged Lavin to turn it into a Broadway musical and “win a Tony award.” Others expressed support, with one user writing, “I really need the part 2 where you say you rebuilt your life, started a new career, and found happiness.”

Lavin has since relocated to Florida, where she is currently living with her mother.
