Kusha Kapila Calls Out ‘Shockingly Unkind’ Jokes From Roast Show

Kusha Kapila recently spoke out about a roast that she found hurtful and dehumanizing. She said that the roast included “shockingly unkind” jokes about her body and her divorce from Zorawar Singh Ahluwalia, which she wasn’t informed about beforehand. In response, she shared on Instagram Stories that she’s trying to let the negativity “slide off” and focus on staying positive.

‘It’s their garbage, not yours to store’

Kusha Kapila recently shared on Instagram that when someone tries to belittle or disempower you, their negativity is their problem, not yours. She advised letting such negativity “slide off” you. This post followed her experience with comedian Ashish Solanki’s Pretty Good Roast Show, which aired on YouTube. Kusha found the roast particularly hurtful due to “shockingly unkind” jokes about her body and her divorce from Zorawar Singh Ahluwalia. She’s now focusing on moving past the hurtful comments and maintaining her own resilience.

On the Pretty Good Roast Show Kusha Kapila was roasted by several standup comedians which included Samay Raina, Aaditya Kulshreshth, Shreya Priyam Roy, and Gurleen Pannu. Raina made some of the “unkind” jokes about Kusha, which she later criticized. Kulshreshth, Roy, and Pannu also made jokes about her. The roast was recorded in January and released on YouTube recently. It featured comments about Kusha’s body and her divorce from Zorawar Singh Ahluwalia. Kusha found these jokes particularly hurtful and has since shared her feelings about dealing with such negativity.

‘I absolutely was not okay’

After the roast episode aired, people wondered why Kusha Kapila let the jokes about her happen. She explained that she didn’t know what the jokes would be and regretted not asking for a script. Kusha found the jokes hurtful and inappropriate for a large audience.. She wrote, “I had no idea what was in store for me. Maybe I should have asked for a script and known better but since friends were involved I didn’t. Rookie mistake.”

She also added, “While I endured some of the really raspy jokes in front of a live audience and technicians, I absolutely was not okay for it to play for millions of people since some jokes straight up dehumanised me. It was shockingly unkind. Mine was the first episode to be shot (was shot in January) so everyone had fair bit of learnings post shoot which is why in other episodes, boundaries haven’t been crossed, especially with women.”
