Previously, three junior doctors and one house staff member who were on duty the night of the incident had been summoned by the Kolkata police. On August 12, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee urged the police to expedite the arrests. She also warned that if the police fail to resolve the case promptly, it would be referred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
