Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder: Polygraph Tests for Ex-RG Kar Principal Today

On Saturday, a team from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in Delhi arrived in Kolkata to conduct polygraph tests on key figures involved in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital case. The tests are scheduled for today and will include former principal Sandip Ghosh, main accused Sanjay Roy, four doctors, and one volunteer. Sanjay Roy’s polygraph test will take place in jail, while the others will be tested at the CBI office in Kolkata.

Earlier in the day, Kolkata police confirmed that all documents related to alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College have been transferred to the CBI by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), following court orders. On Friday, the Calcutta High Court had shifted the financial irregularities investigation, previously managed by the SIT, to the CBI. The court also authorized the CBI to conduct polygraph tests on Ghosh and the five other individuals involved.

This decision came in response to a petition by Akhtar Ali, the former deputy superintendent of the hospital, who accused Ghosh of financial misconduct and unethical practices. The High Court tasked the CBI with investigating these claims alongside the ongoing probe into the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the hospital. The CBI has been given until September 17 to present a progress report on the investigation.

In a separate development, Sealdah Court on Friday remanded Sanjay Roy to 14 days of judicial custody, which will be extended until September 6, 2024, under CBI supervision. The trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.
