Kochi: Newborn’s Body Found Wrapped In Plastic Cover

The body of a newborn baby, wrapped in a plastic cover, was discovered abandoned in the middle of the road in Vidya Nagar, located in the upscale Panampilly Nagar area of Kochi on Friday morning.

According to CCTV footage, the body was thrown from an apartment near the road around 8:15 am. The discovery was made by passengers in a contract carriage vehicle who noticed the abandoned plastic cover in the road. Upon inspection, they found the body of the newborn inside.

“We are questioning the residents of the apartment. We have obtained CCTV footage showing the body being wrapped and thrown from the side where the apartment is situated. We will soon identify the person responsible for this incident,” stated K S Sudarshan, Deputy Commissioner of Police.

Residents of the apartment complex have been instructed by the police not to leave the premises.

Using the address found on the plastic cover, the police have narrowed down their search to suspects residing in the apartment complex and are currently interrogating the family.

“We have spoken with ASHA workers in the area, and they have no knowledge of any pregnant women residing in the apartment. This was a heinous act, and the perpetrator must be apprehended swiftly,” commented TJ Vinod, Ernakulam MLA.

Thrikkakara MLA Uma Thomas also visited the scene and spoke with residents of nearby areas.

“The police are interrogating the suspects. It appears that people often dump waste at a nearby isolated plot. Perhaps the intention was to dispose of the body there, but the attempt failed. Those involved in this incident must face severe consequences,” she remarked.
