Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday condoled the death of four armed forces soldiers in a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua region and said that the security situation in the union territory is on a “downward spiral”.
Kharge also slammed the government saying that no amount of whitewashing can erase the fact that Modi government remains a disaster for the National Security in J&K and rued that when PR becomes an aim, gathering security intelligence through statecraft becomes a casualty.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Kharge, who is also the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha said, “Deeply anguished at the martyrdom of our four brave Indian Army soldiers in a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua. Six Jawans are also injured. We unequivocally condemn this cowardly terror attack on the Army convey in the strongest possible terms.”
Taking a swipe at the government. He said, “This is the fifth terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir in a month. Our heartfelt condolences to the families of the soldiers. We salute the courage and valour of our bravehearts. Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured and we wish them a speedy recovery.”
“The security situation in Jammu and Kashmir is on a downward spiral. No amount of whitewashing, fake claims, hollow boasts and chest thumping can erase the fact that Modi government remains a disaster for the National Security in J&K,” he said.
Taking a dig at the government at the Centre, he said, “When PR becomes an aim, gathering security intelligence through statecraft becomes a casualty.”
He also said that “our resolve to stand with the nation against terrorism remains resolute”.
Meanwhile in a post on X, Priyanka Gandhi said, “The news of the death of four brave soldiers and injury to many soldiers in the cowardly terrorist attack in Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir is extremely sad.”
“May God grant peace to the departed souls. The country will always be indebted to the martyrs for this supreme sacrifice. I pray to God for the grieving families and the injured soldiers,” she said, adding that “the entire nation is united against violence and terrorism and unanimously condemns this anti-humanitarian act”.
The remarks from Congress came after four soldiers died in fresh terror attack on army convoy in Billawar in J&K’s Kathua area on Monday evening.
Six more soldiers were injured in the attack and have been rushed to the hospital.
As per the information, the terrorists attacked the army vehicle in the Machedi area in Billawar from atop a hill and also hurled grenades at the army vehicle.
Following the attack on the convoy, the army launched a search operation, following which an encounter began between them and the terrorists.
In the past few weeks, terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir have escalated.
On June 11 and 12, twin terror attacks had rocked Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district.
In the June 11 terror attack, six security personnel were injured when terrorists attacked a joint check post at Chattargalla, while a police personnel was injured in a gunfight with terrorists at Kota tNDSop in the Gandoh area on June 12.
