Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday slammed the BJP-led NDA government at centre by highlighting several cases of alleged corruption and criminal negligence after a portion of roof collapsed at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport terminal one saying all this “false bravado and rhetoric” was only reserved for quickly indulging in ribbon-cutting ceremonies before Elections.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Kharge, who is also Leaderof Opposition in Rajya Sabha said, “Corruption and criminal negligence is responsible for the collapse of shoddy infrastructure falling like a deck of cards, in the past 10 years of Modi government.”

He cited the examples of Delhi Airport (T1) roof collapse, Jabalpur airport roof collapse, Abysmal condition of Ayodhya’s new roads, Ram Mandir leakage, Cracks in Mumbai Trans Harbour Link road, 13 new bridges falling down in Bihar in 2023 and 2024, Pragati Maidan Tunnel submerging, Morbi bridge collapse tragedy in Gujarat.

He said these are some stark instances “which exposes the tall claims by Modi ji and BJP of creating “World Class Infrastructure”.

“On March 10th, when Modi ji inaugurated the Delhi Ariport T1, he called himself ‘Doosri mitti ka insaan…’ all this false bravado and rhetoric was only reserved for quickly indulging in ribbon-cutting ceremonies before Elections,” Kharge said.

“Our heartfelt condolences to the victims of the Delhi airport tragedy. They bore the brunt of a corrupt, Inept and Selfish government,” he said.

His remarks came after a portion of roof at the IGI Airport Terminal one collapsed and damaged several of the cars parked there.

At least one person was killed and six others injured after a portion of the roof of the Delhi airport’s Terminal-1 (T1) collapsed on cars amid heavy rain this morning.

Even Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu visited the airport and inspected the area.

Following the incident, all flights from the terminal at the IGI Airport terminal 1, scheduled till 2 pm today have been cancelled, Union Minister of Civil Aviation said after inspecting the airport.

He also announced a compensation of Rs 20 lakh to the victims family and Rs 3 lakh each for those injured.

He also said that he will see that a thorough examination of the terminal’s structure is conducted by experts to ensure safety and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is closely monitoring the situation and has assured of full support.
