According to the police, Tabu Rao, the wife of Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, has lodged a complaint against BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal regarding his alleged offensive comments targeting them.
Tabu Rao submitted the complaint on Sunday at the Sanjayanagar Police Station against Yatnal, who represents Vijayapura in the BJP.
Yatnal purportedly made remarks concerning Dinesh Gundu Rao’s inter-religious marriage with Tabu.
The incident unfolded following Rao’s social media post regarding a BJP worker’s detention for questioning by the NIA in connection with the Rameshwaram Cafe blast case.
Following the complaint filing, Tabu Rao expressed her dismay, stating, “I am not involved in politics, and I am unaware of who Basavanagowda Patil Yatnal is. My activities extend to social work transcending religious boundaries. Nonetheless, he made derogatory remarks about me. Is it acceptable for the BJP to engage in such politics, targeting someone’s spouse and children?”
She criticized Yatnal’s divisive politics, asserting that the BJP lacks substantial developmental issues for electoral engagement. She emphasized that while Dinesh Gundurao is a political figure and subject to scrutiny, she finds it intolerable to be subjected to public discussion. Consequently, she announced her decision to pursue legal action for criminal defamation.
Furthermore, Tabu Rao demanded an apology from the BJP leader, lamenting the recurring theme of dragging Muslims and household matters into Indian political discourse, which she attributed to BJP’s strategies. She stressed the necessity for an apology from Yatnal for his unwarranted remarks.
