Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar announced a major push for development in Channapatna taluk, allocating Rs 2-5 crore for each Panchayat. Speaking at the launch of various projects, Shivakumar detailed the government’s broader efforts, revealing that Rs 300 crore has been invested in Channapatna alone. These funds are being used to build 5,000 houses, with each Panchayat receiving 100-150 houses for distribution to beneficiaries. Additionally, critical infrastructure projects, such as canal development and tank filling, are already underway in the district, thanks to the groundwork laid by District In-charge Minister Ramalinga Reddy.
This announcement forms part of the state’s broader development trajectory. Karnataka has seen significant growth over the last decade, with its Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) increasing at a compound annual growth rate of 11.61% from 2015-2024, reaching an estimated Rs 28.09 trillion (US$ 336.81 billion). Karnataka has also become a hub for sectors like IT, biotechnology, aerospace, and automotive, ranking second in the country for attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). The state saw cumulative FDI inflows of US$ 51.03 billion between 2019 and 2024. Infrastructure development, particularly airport expansions in Mysuru and Raichur, is a key focus.
During the press interaction, Shivakumar also commented on the upcoming bye-elections in Channapatna, urging party workers to vote for the Congress, regardless of the candidate. In response to a question about an FIR filed against Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy, Shivakumar declined to comment, focusing instead on his involvement in the Dasara festivities in Mysuru, which he described as a grand, must-see event for all.

Meanwhile, Karnataka’s robust development in recent years includes policies aimed at reducing unemployment and improving social welfare. The Gruha Lakshmi scheme, for example, offers Rs 2,000 per month to women heads of families, with a projected annual cost of Rs 17,500 crore, highlighting the state’s commitment to social development.
