Kargil Vijay Divas: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh lays wreath in honor of fallen jawans

For the 24th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh traveled to Drass in the Kargil area of Ladakh on Wednesday.
Every year, this day is observed to remember the soldiers who lost their lives fighting for Pakistan in the 1999 Kargil conflict. on honor of the courageous souls who lost their lives on the freezing heights of Kargil, the Raksha Mantri lay a wreath at this location of the Kargil War Memorial.
He was the special guest during the solemn memorial service.

The Kargil War Memorial received floral tributes from both the Army Chief General Manoj Pande and the Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar, who also lay a wreath in honour of the gallant soldiers.
In remembrance of the Kargil War Memorial’s fallen soldiers, General Anil Chauhan, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), also lay a wreath.

The conflict, as has been widely documented, pitted the Indian Army jawans against the Pakistani intruders in the rugged and unforgiving heights of Kargil.
In the conflict, which lasted over two months, the Army managed to push back the Pakistani intruders, who had been occupying certain vantage points in Kargil, raising the Tricolour on the territory wrested from the enemy.
The conflict played out in the frontlines in the Dras, Kargil and Batalik sectors of Kargil district.

The solemn memorial service for the jawans—who gave their lives in the conflict—took place against the picturesque backdrop of the highlands, where they had fought valiantly against Pakistani invaders.
The military band’s solemn sounds contributed to the soldiers’ solemn atmosphere as they gathered to remember Kargil Vijay Divas.
The presence of the war heroes, Veer Naris, Veer Matas, and family members of the troops who gave their lives in the line of duty during the fight graced the occasion.
