After its thrilling cliff-hanger, fans of Squid Game who eagerly binge-watched Season 2 are already hooked on more. The good news? There is no end in sight for the Squid Game universe. Plans are in motion to broaden this worldwide hit even after Season 3 premieres, including an English-language version.

Creator Hwang Dong-Hyuk recently revealed in an interview that Netflix has no intention of closing the chapter on its most successful series. He stated, “Netflix has a plan. They are not going to throw this idea away.” Hwang also confirmed that David Fincher, the acclaimed director of The Social Network, has been working on an English remake of the series, though Netflix has not yet made an official announcement about the project.

Apart from the remake, the Squid Game universe has already spilled into reality television with Squid Game: The Challenge, which aired in 2023. Although some people found the concept of the show questionable, it has been renewed for a second season. Hwang hinted at possible involvement in future projects, saying he could serve as an advisor or co-creator. He told fans that the universe would go on, and he assured them that “Season 3 is not going to be the end of the Squid Game universe.”

With 2.2 billion hours viewed during its first ninety-one days, Squid Game broke all existing records since the premiere in 2021 to become Netflix’s most-watched original series ever. The Emmy circuit was another victory for the show, and it won six of them with Lee Jung-jae winning as Outstanding Lead Actor. His landmark win brought in the recognition Asian talent was achieving on the international scene.

It was through a lot of work that produced such an incredible series, but with both seasons involving very challenging and demanding film shootings. And despite this, the actors and crew came together to produce a story that people around the globe began to get hooked on. Season 3 has tremendous prospects of continuing to unravel the drama, and will air on television during mid- to late-2025.
