President Joe Biden’s physician reported that Biden’s COVID-19 symptoms have almost completely resolved, as the president remained out of public view for the fifth consecutive day on Monday. Biden, who tested positive for COVID-19 while campaigning in Las Vegas last Wednesday, has been recuperating at his vacation home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.

Health Update

Dr. Kevin O’Connor, Biden’s physician, stated that the president completed his 10th dose of Paxlovid, a COVID-19 treatment medication, on Monday morning. Dr. O’Connor noted that Biden’s symptoms have nearly resolved, with his vital signs—including pulse, blood pressure, respiratory rate, and temperature—remaining normal. Biden’s oxygen saturation is excellent, and his lungs are clear.

Political Announcements

On Sunday, Biden announced the end of his reelection campaign in a letter posted on social media. In the same statement, he endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris. The announcement followed a period of public absence since his arrival at a U.S. air base in Dover, Delaware, after testing positive for COVID-19.

Presidential Duties

Despite his illness, Biden has continued to perform his presidential duties. He received separate virtual briefings on Monday from homeland security adviser Liz Sherwood-Randall and national security adviser Jake Sullivan.

Upcoming Plans

Biden’s public schedule has been kept clear as he recovers from COVID-19. However, he mentioned in his letter on Sunday that he plans to deliver an address to the nation this week to explain his decision to end his candidacy. Additionally, Biden is scheduled to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House this week, according to a source familiar with the president’s schedule.
