J&K Elections 2024: BJP Promises Permanent Jobs for Anganwadi Teachers

Ahead of the second phase of voting in the Jammu & Kashmir Assembly Elections 2024, BJP leader Shazia Ilmi addressed a press conference in Srinagar, emphasizing key points from the party’s manifesto. One of the most notable announcements was the plan to provide permanency to contractual Anganwadi teachers. Ilmi highlighted that this is a significant commitment from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), aiming to bring stability and security to thousands of contractual workers who have been waiting for regularization of their services for years.

Anganwadi workers play a crucial role in implementing welfare schemes for women and children, including health, nutrition, and pre-school education in rural areas. However, many of these workers have been employed on a contractual basis, facing job insecurity and low wages. The BJP’s promise to offer permanency to these workers reflects its broader agenda of labor reforms and socio-economic upliftment in the region.

This announcement comes as part of the BJP’s larger strategy to win over voters in Jammu & Kashmir, which is holding its first assembly elections since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. The party is banking on development promises, security, and labor reforms as core pillars of its campaign.

The second phase of the elections will be held across 26 constituencies, with several key candidates in the fray, including BJP’s Ravinder Raina and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah. With over 25 lakh voters set to participate, the political landscape is expected to shift based on these developments.

The promise to address long-standing issues like Anganwadi worker regularization has garnered attention, as the region looks for stability and development after years of political uncertainty. With the BJP and other major parties like the Congress, National Conference, and People’s Democratic Party contesting for influence, the election outcome will have a significant impact on the future governance of Jammu & Kashmir.
