Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren has tendered his resignation to Governor CP Radhakrishnan at Raj Bhavan in Ranchi, following a meeting of parties in the ruling alliance. This move comes amid speculation that JMM Executive President Hemant Soren will soon stake claim to form the government. Hemant Soren, recently released on bail from a money laundering case, is seen as the face of the INDIA bloc in the state.

Champai Soren’s resignation marks the end of his tenure amidst political deliberations within the alliance. Earlier, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey criticized the expected leadership change, highlighting internal dynamics within the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed dismay over the removal of Champai Soren, a senior tribal leader, from the Chief Minister’s post.
Hemant Soren was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in January over allegations related to a land scam and money laundering. The case involves significant financial transactions purportedly linked to forged official records, aimed at acquiring large land parcels through fraudulent means.
