Jain Acharya Lokesh becomes first monk to be honoured with American Presidential Award

Jain Acharya Lokesh, the founder of Ahimsa Vishwa Bharati and World Peace Centre, has received the American Presidential Award at Capitol Hill in Washington. He is the first Indian monk to be honored with this award.

As part of the recognition, Acharya Lokesh received the Presidential Award, Golden Shield, Certificate of Honor, and a citation bearing President Biden’s signature. US Congressman Brad Sherman read the certificate and citation, as per Ahimsa Vishwa Bharati’s statement.

US President Joe Biden, in his signed citation, praised Acharya Lokesh’s humanitarian work, stating, “I congratulate you for your contribution to the public good and congratulate you for your service to this great nation and humanity.” Biden highlighted Acharya Lokesh’s global peace efforts, noting, “By sharing your time and passion, you are helping to find solutions to the challenges we face. Solutions we need more than ever. We live in a moment that needs hope, light, and love. You are providing all three through your service.”

Biden expressed confidence that Acharya Lokesh will continue to serve humanity and commended him for his volunteer leadership on behalf of the American people.

In his acceptance speech, Acharya Lokesh expressed pride in receiving the American Presidential Award but acknowledged the increased responsibility it entails. He stated that the award honors Indian culture, spiritual values, and Jain principles of Lord Mahavir.

Acharya Lokesh emphasized his dedication to the welfare of mankind over the past 40 years, rooted in these values, and pledged to live up to expectations in the future.

He thanked Biden and expressed hope for continued collaboration between India and the US for the betterment of humanity.
