Iran has vehemently rejected U.S. media reports suggesting it has been plotting to assassinate former President Donald Trump.
A foreign ministry spokesman stated on Wednesday that Iran rejects the “malicious” allegations regarding a plot to attack the Republican presidential hopeful. However, Nasser Kanaani emphasized that Iran seeks to prosecute Trump for ordering the assassination of a senior military official in 2020.
However, this did not prevent the attack on Trump at a rally on Saturday. The U.S. report indicates that the Iranian threat was not linked to the shooting in Pennsylvania, allegedly carried out by a lone 20-year-old gunman.
Kanaani stated that Iran “strongly rejects any involvement in the recent armed attack against Trump or claims regarding Iran’s intention for such an action,” considering these allegations to be motivated by malicious political objectives.
Iran remains determined to “prosecute Trump” for his role in ordering the killing of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander Qassem Soleimani in 2020, he asserted.
