Owning a home in the United States has long been a cherished dream for many. However, given the relatively high prices and interest rates, it often feels more like a daydream for renters. Yet, an Indian truck driver managed to achieve this dream, sparking comparisons between life in the US and India.

A video shared on the X handle of AvgIndianObserver showcases the Indian truck driver standing proudly in front of his newly purchased property. Situated in an urban residential neighborhood, the house features five bedrooms and costs around Rs 2 crore in Indian currency.

But that’s not all. The man of Indian origin also owns a Jeep Compass, which is parked in his garage. Originally posted by a travel vlogger last year, the video has resurfaced and gone viral once again.

“A Truck driver in the USA has a Jeep Compass in his garage while in India some IIT/IIM graduate (with the help of his generation wealth) and working 9 to 9 will be hardly able to afford a decent 3 bhk in Noida in 2024. Biggest lie ever told was “life is easy in India,” the X user wrote in the caption.

In response, social media users engaged in a major discussion about housing in the US. Some debated why it seems easier to buy a home abroad compared to India, while others highlighted the higher income levels of an average truck driver in the US.

A user wrote, “These are wooden houses in USA, not bricks and concrete houses like in India. Wooden houses are build in 4-5 months. It’s almost like plug and play. Land in USA costs 1 dollar per square feet, that is 83 rupees per square feet. USA has more land and less people.”

“Land is cheaper in the US than in India,” another one commented.

A user drew a comparison between buying property in the suburbs of service industry cities in the US and India, arguing that the difficulty level is similar in both countries. “You will not even get a studio in Seattle or San Francisco suburb for Rs 4 crore,” the comment read.

Another comment pointed out that an average truck driver in the US earns approximately 80,000 USD, which equates to about Rs 60–70 lakhs in India.

Due to the wide range of responses, the post has garnered over 700,000 views on the microblogging platform.
