In a startling case from Chhattisgarh, a 40-year-old man named Sanjay Jaiswal experienced a brain haemorrhage, which doctors attribute to exposure to extremely loud DJ music. Jaiswal, a resident of Balrampur district, was assisting with DJ equipment when he suddenly felt dizzy. Despite initially dismissing his symptoms, his condition deteriorated rapidly, leading to severe headaches and vomiting later that evening.

Diagnosis and Medical Findings

Upon seeking medical attention at Ambikapur Government Medical College, Jaiswal underwent a CT scan that revealed a blood clot in the posterior part of his brain, a result of a ruptured blood vessel. Given Jaiswal’s normal blood pressure and lack of previous health issues, this diagnosis was unexpected. The breakthrough came when Jaiswal admitted to standing near loud DJ speakers before his symptoms began, leading doctors to consider that the noise might have triggered his condition.

Health Risks of Excessive Noise

Dr. Shailendra Gupta, an ENT specialist, emphasized the health risks associated with prolonged exposure to loud noises. He explained that such exposure can lead to hearing loss, increased blood pressure, and even heart attacks. Dr. Gupta referenced a 2022 study involving traffic personnel exposed to constant noise, where a significant number reported hearing loss and other symptoms like insomnia and irritability.

Calls for Stricter Noise Regulations

This incident has heightened concerns about noise pollution in Chhattisgarh. Local residents and business owners have called for stricter regulations on DJ music, citing its disruptive impact on children’s education and its adverse effects on wildlife. The Chhattisgarh High Court had previously criticized the state government for its lack of action on noise pollution. In response, the Chief Secretary held a high-level meeting to address the enforcement of noise control measures.

The case of Sanjay Jaiswal underscores the severe health implications of loud noise exposure and highlights the urgent need for stringent noise pollution controls. As the debate continues, it remains crucial for local authorities to implement and enforce effective noise regulations to prevent such incidents in the future.
