The Indian Army extended its heartfelt condolences to the family of Captain Deepak Singh, who was killed in an encounter with terrorists in Doda district, Jammu and Kashmir.
The White Knight Corps expressed their sorrow in a post on X, stating, “All ranks of White Knight Corps salute the supreme sacrifice of Braveheart Capt Deepak Singh, who succumbed to his injuries.” They added, “We offer our deepest condolences and stand resolutely with the bereaved family during this time of grief.”
Captain Singh, a member of the 48 Rashtriya Rifles, was killed while leading a search party during Operation Assar, which is currently underway in the Doda district. The operation, which began on Tuesday, was initiated by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir police in response to the terrorist encounter.
Earlier in the day, the White Knight Corps reported, “The search for terrorists continues amid intense firefighting. One officer has been injured while leading the search party, and war-like stores have been recovered as the operation proceeds.”
In a related development, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh convened a crucial meeting to address the rise in terror-related incidents in Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting, held at South Block, was attended by Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Director General of Military Operations Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, and other senior security officials. This meeting comes just before Independence Day on August 15.
Security forces across Jammu and Kashmir have been placed on high alert ahead of Independence Day to ensure public safety. On August 10, two soldiers and a civilian were killed in a gunfight between terrorists and security forces in Anantnag. The encounter occurred during a joint operation by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF in Kokernag, Anantnag. Havildar Dipak Kumar Yadav and Lance Naik Praveen Sharma lost their lives in this operation, and Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, along with all ranks of the Indian Army, paid tribute to them.
Recent months have seen an increase in terror attacks in Jammu, including an assault on an army convoy in Kathua and skirmishes in Doda and Udhampur. The Ministry of Home Affairs reported to the Lok Sabha that, as of July 21 this year, 28 people, including civilians and security personnel, were killed in 11 terror-related incidents and 24 counter-terror operations.
