Indian Ambassador to Japan, Sibi George, hoisted the national flag during a ceremony at the Indian Embassy in Tokyo to mark the 78th Independence Day. During the event, he also read out the President of India’s address to the nation. This ceremony commemorates India’s independence from British rule on August 15, 1947.
The Indian Embassy shared photos from the event on X, stating, “Glimpses of the Flag hoisting ceremony at @IndianEmbTokyo to celebrate the 78th Independence Day of India.” The post added, “Ambassador @AmbSibiGeorge hoisted the tricolour and read the address to the Nation by the President of India.”
In Singapore, the High Commission of India also held a flag-hoisting ceremony. The event was shared on X with a video, stating, “Flag hoisting ceremony at @HCI_Singapore to celebrate the 78th #IndependenceDay of India. High Commissioner hoisted the tricolor.”
In India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the occasion by hoisting the national flag at the Red Fort in New Delhi for the 11th consecutive time. Following the hoisting, the Prime Minister received a ‘Rashtriya Salute’ as the Punjab Regiment Military Band, led by Subedar Major Rajinder Singh, played the National Anthem. The band, comprising one Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) and 25 other personnel, participated in the ceremony.
Earlier, PM Modi took to X to extend his Independence Day greetings to the nation, posting, “Independence Day greetings to my fellow Indians. Jai Hind!”
Upon his arrival at the Red Fort, PM Modi was welcomed by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, and Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane. After hoisting the flag, PM Modi delivered his customary address to the nation from the ramparts of the historic monument.
