India Unaffected by Trump’s Election Victory, Says S. Jaishankar

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar stated that while many countries are nervous following Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential election, India is not one of them. Speaking at the Aditya Birla 25th Silver Jubilee Scholarship Program in Mumbai, Jaishankar highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has built strong relationships with multiple US presidents over the years.

Jaishankar mentioned that when PM Modi first visited Washington D.C., Barack Obama was president, followed by Donald Trump, and now Joe Biden. He emphasized that PM Modi has naturally fostered these relationships, noting, “Many countries are nervous about the US today, but we are not one of them.”

He also revealed that PM Modi was among the first world leaders to congratulate Trump after his electoral victory, calling him a “friend” in a tweet. PM Modi had a “great conversation” with Trump, expressing eagerness to strengthen India-US ties in defense, technology, and global peace.

During their conversation, Trump praised PM Modi, calling him a “magnificent man,” and reiterated that India and Modi are true friends, with both leaders agreeing to collaborate on global peace initiatives.
