BJP Shares Video of Sandip Ghosh’s Aide Claiming Ties with Mamata Banerjee; TMC Demands Verification

An old video featuring Afsar Ali Khan, who is reportedly an “additional security” personnel for former RG Kar Medical College and Hospital principal Sandip Ghosh, has resurfaced on social media, stirring controversy. The video, which appears to be from about a year ago, shows Khan boasting about his alleged connection to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, referred to as “CM Didi.”

Sandip Ghosh, who recently resigned from his position amid scrutiny over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the hospital, was also suspended from his role as vice president of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Kolkata branch on Wednesday.

In the video, Khan is seen engaged in a heated argument with Dr. Manas Kumar Bandyopadhyay, the then-principal of RG Kar Medical College, and other hospital staff. Khan, who is identified as part of the “additional security,” dismisses questions about his attendance, uniform, and background by claiming he was sent by “CM Didi.”

Bandyopadhyay has since been reappointed as the principal of RG Kar Medical College following Ghosh’s departure.

The BJP has criticized Khan, calling him Sandip Ghosh’s enforcer and accusing him of flaunting a luxury car worth ₹40 lakh, which they claim is funded by syndicate-related corruption. The party has shared the video on social media and alleged that Khan’s presence and actions at the hospital highlight systemic corruption and unchecked power.

BJP IT head Amit Malviya has used the video to question Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s involvement or awareness of the alleged corruption, suggesting it may reflect poorly on her administration.

In response, TMC leader Kunal Ghosh has urged for verification of the video’s authenticity. He warned that if the video is genuine, it indicates serious issues within the government and party. Ghosh has called for police action to investigate the matter and address any potential misconduct.
