An air hostess has alleged that she was sexually assaulted while on ventilator support in a Gurugram hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU) on April 6. The incident came to light on April 13, when the woman, who had been discharged from the hospital, informed her husband about the assault. He immediately reported the matter to the police.
Details of the Assault and Medical History
The 46-year-old woman, who had traveled to Gurugram for training, was staying in a hotel when her health worsened following a drowning incident. She was subsequently admitted to a private hospital for treatment. On April 5, her husband transferred her to another hospital in Gurugram, where the assault allegedly occurred while she was on a ventilator.
In her police complaint, the woman described her condition at the time of the incident, stating that she was unconscious, unable to speak, and scared. She claimed that while she was on ventilator support, some hospital staff sexually assaulted her, with two nurses present around her.
Police Action and Investigation
After learning about the assault, the woman’s husband alerted the police on the emergency number 112, and a case was filed at the Sadar Police Station. Gurugram police spokesperson Sandeep Kumar confirmed the registration of the case, adding that a police team had been dispatched to the hospital to review the duty charts and analyze CCTV footage in search of the assailant.
Kumar further stated, “The police team has recorded the statement of the accused before a magistrate and will identify and arrest the individual responsible.”
Hospital’s Silence on the Incident
When contacted, the hospital authorities declined to comment on the matter. The security staff at the hospital also denied any knowledge of the alleged incident.
