Andhra Pradesh Files Petition To Seek Equal Division Of Assets With Telangana

Andhra Pradesh government petitioned the Supreme Court demanding, a “fair, equitable and expeditious” division of assets and liabilities with Telangana.

The argument presented in the petition is that even though the two states were created in June 2014 and that assets and liabilities were allocated by the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act of 2014, the division of assets have still not been initiated.

Furthermore, it argues that Telangana benefits from the non-division of the assets, which are worth $1,42,601 crore, as nearly 91% of them are located in Hyderabad, the former capital of the merged state that is now part of Telangana. This is “adversely affecting” the people of Andhra Pradesh, it said.

The Plea further said, “Since 2014, the 159,096 employees who work in these institutions have been uncertain due to an improper division. Many pensionable workers who retired after the bifurcation are in a pitiful position and have not yet received terminal payments. Therefore, it is essential that all of these assets be divided as soon as possible and that the matter is put to rest.”
