Two days after the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which killed 26 people, a bizarre incident unfolded in New Delhi. A man was seen approaching the Pakistan High Commission carrying a box that appeared to contain a cake. The unusual timing and setting triggered intense speculation and criticism online.

As the man neared the heavily guarded premises, protesters outside the High Commission began chanting slogans like “Pakistan Haye Haye.” Videos of the man carrying the cake quickly went viral across social media platforms.

Social Media Slams ‘Shameful Optics’

The visual triggered outrage among users, with many interpreting it as a possible sign of celebration amid the mourning in India. One user commented, “A big cake, silence to media, and timing that chills the soul—if this wasn’t a celebration, why the secrecy? Shameful optics at the Pakistan High Commission.”

Another wrote sarcastically, “I want to buy or rent Pakistan High Commission since I am looking for a flat in Delhi.”

India’s Tough Response to Pahalgam Attack

Following the Pahalgam attack, India’s Cabinet Committee on Security declared multiple sanctions against Pakistan. These included declaring Pakistan’s defence, naval, and air advisors persona non grata, with orders to leave India within a week. India also decided to shut the Attari integrated check post, allowing return only for those with valid endorsements before May 1.

Additionally, the Indian government blocked the official X (formerly Twitter) handle of the Pakistan government in India.

Pakistan Summons Security Meet, Denies Involvement

In response, Pakistan has called a high-level National Security Committee meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to decide its next steps. The meeting will involve the three services chiefs and key ministers to address what Pakistan called “irresponsible actions” by India.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, speaking to a private channel, criticized India’s response, calling it “immature” and “hasty.” He added, “India has not given any evidence. They have not shown any maturity in their response.”

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Foreign Office expressed regret over the lives lost in the Pahalgam incident but continued to deny any involvement.
