India Blocks Pakistan Government’s X Handle After Deadly Pahalgam Terror Attack

In the aftermath of the deadly Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians, India has taken strong diplomatic steps against Pakistan. Hours after the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) met under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Indian government withheld access to the Pakistan government’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle.

India summoned Pakistan’s top diplomat, Saad Ahmad Warraich, on Tuesday night and handed over a formal Persona non grata note for military diplomats, sources told ANI.

Five-Point Diplomatic Blow

India also unveiled five diplomatic sanctions, including:

  1. Suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty

  2. Closure of the Attari-Wagah border

  3. Downgrading diplomatic relations

  4. Withdrawal of high commissioners

  5. Economic disengagement

These decisions came following a CCS meeting attended by Union Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and S Jaishankar.

Terror Strike on Day of Key Visits

The April 22 terror attack occurred in Baisaran, Pahalgam, on the same day United States Vice President JD Vance visited India and PM Modi was on a state visit to Saudi Arabia. Modi cut short his trip and returned to New Delhi on Wednesday morning.

Pakistan Denies Involvement

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif denied Islamabad’s involvement. “Pakistan has nothing to do with it (Pahalgam terror attack),” he told a local news channel on April 23.

He added, “A session of the National Security Committee will be held under the chair of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif,” and said decisions would be made to provide “an appropriate response to the Indian steps.”

Suspected Lashkar Links

Although not officially confirmed, security agencies suspect that The Resistance Front (TRF), a Lashkar-e-Taiba offshoot, carried out the attack. Reports also suggest that Saifullah Kasuri, alias Khalid, a senior Lashkar commander, may have masterminded the operation.
