In a significant development, the Baramulla Police have successfully apprehended an individual who had been masquerading as a CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) officer, bringing an end to a series of deceitful activities. During the operation, the police not only arrested the impostor but also recovered stolen household items and fake identification cards from his possession.
The sequence of events leading to the arrest began when the Police Station Kunzer received a written complaint from Mr. Farooq Ahmad Wani, a resident of Wassun Bangil. Mr. Wani detailed a disturbing incident involving a group of individuals, namely Javeed Ahmed Rather, Anjuman Afreen, Aaqib Ahmad Wani, and Rafeeq Ahmad Wani. The complaint indicated that Javeed Ahmed Rather had portrayed himself as a CBI officer to Mr. Wani, producing a counterfeit CBI identification card and falsely assuring Mr. Wani that he could secure a placement for his child at the prestigious National Defence Academy (NDA). However, as the situation unfolded, the accused individuals escalated their fraudulent activities, resorting to theft. They absconded with various household items, including a geyser, bedsheet, inverter, CCTV camera, LCD, and other valuable possessions from Mr. Wani’s residence. Shockingly, Mr. Wani was defrauded of a substantial sum totaling 40 Lac rupees.
In response to the complaint, the Baramulla Police promptly registered a case under the relevant sections of the law at the Police Station Kunzer and initiated an investigation into the matter.
The diligent efforts of the police team at the Police Station Kunzer yielded a breakthrough, resulting in the arrest of the impostor who had been impersonating a CBI officer. During the operation, falsified documents, including the purported CBI card, and some stolen household items were recovered from the accused’s residence.
The community is urged to exercise caution and vigilance and refrain from falling prey to fraudulent individuals. Sharing any relevant information with the police is essential to combat such deceptive activities effectively. The Baramulla Police are committed to taking resolute action against anti-social elements, ensuring the safety and security of the community.
