IGP Kashmir holds meeting to evaluate law and order situation in Srinagar

Inspector General of Police (IGP) for the Kashmir Zone, VK Birdi, chaired a meeting on Sunday to evaluate the law and order situation in Srinagar. The meeting took place at the Police Control Room Kashmir and was attended by senior officers from various branches of the police, security forces, and intelligence agencies.

The session included all Range Deputy Inspectors General (DIsG) of the Kashmir Zone, DIsG of CRPF South and North Srinagar, district Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) of Kashmir Zone, and other senior officials, such as SSP PCR Kashmir, SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir, SSP CID SBK, SSP Traffic City Srinagar, SSP CID CIK, SSP Security Kashmir, SP PC Srinagar, Lt Col (IS), and additional officers.

Briefing and Discussions


The meeting began with a detailed briefing by the participating officers, who provided insights into the overall security situation and highlighted existing challenges in the Kashmir region. Various aspects, such as intelligence gathering and responding to emergent situations, were discussed. District SSPs also updated IGP Kashmir on the preparedness and the current law and order situation in their respective districts.

Directives Issued by IGP Kashmir


IGP Birdi instructed the officers to meticulously prepare, plan, and monitor their areas of responsibility to prevent any potential law and order disturbances. He also directed district SSPs, cyber cells, and IT & social media cells to monitor social media platforms closely and identify individuals spreading rumors or sharing incriminating material. The IGP emphasized the importance of adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and urged officers to conduct coordination meetings with the public to maintain peace and calm in the valley.


The meeting concluded with a collective resolve to ensure peace and tranquility in the region. IGP Kashmir reaffirmed the commitment of the police and security forces to uphold law and order while ensuring the safety and rights of citizens.


Meanwhile, the third and final phase of polling in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is scheduled for October 1, with the counting of votes to take place on October 8. The first and second phases of polling were conducted on September 18 and September 25, respectively.
