ICC World Cup2023: Australia’s Glenn Maxwell delivered a sensational and historic performance in the ongoing ODI World Cup, helping secure a spot in the semifinals for the five-time champions. Facing an imposing target of 292 against Afghanistan at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, Maxwell played a remarkable solo innings, battling cramps and niggles to guide Australia to victory with an unbeaten double-century.

Maxwell’s knock of 201 runs off 128 balls is already being celebrated as one of the best in ODI history, featuring 21 fours and 10 sixes. He became the first non-opener in men’s ODIs to achieve a double hundred. His 10th six secured the winning runs, capping an extraordinary performance.

After a modest start to the campaign, Australia secured their sixth consecutive win in the World Cup against Afghanistan on Wednesday, with Maxwell as the standout hero.

Indian Cricketer Virat Kohli, who plays alongside Maxwell for RCB (Royal Challengers Bangalore), praised the “freak” show at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. Kohli took to his Instagram story to share an image of Maxwell, writing, “Only you could do this. Freak.”

Many cricket legends, including Sachin Tendulkar, hailed Maxwell’s ODI innings as one of the best in the format’s history. Tendulkar described it as the “best ODI knock” and commended Maxwell’s outstanding performance, overcoming physical discomfort to lead Australia to a thrilling three-wicket victory over Afghanistan on X.

Maxwell’s remarkable innings have cemented his place in cricket history, winning him honours and adoration from both fellow players and spectators.
