‘Hancock 2’ is Happening! Will Smith Drops Zendaya Casting Hint

Will Smith has sparked excitement among fans of the 2008 superhero film Hancock by revealing that a sequel is in development.

According to Deadline, the actor shared that a follow-up movie is in the works and hinted that Zendaya is being considered for a role.

During a livestream, Smith spoke about the potential sequel, saying, “There’s a really cool Hancock 2 idea… We haven’t even talked about it.” He then teased a casting update, adding, “I’m going to give you one little piece. Zendaya [is] being approached for a role in Hancock 2,” as reported by Deadline.

The original film, directed by Peter Berg and written by Vince Gilligan and Vy Vincent Ngo, starred Smith as Hancock, a troubled superhero struggling with memory loss. The movie also featured Charlize Theron, Jason Bateman, and Eddie Marsan in prominent roles.

A sequel has been in discussion since the film’s release, with Berg confirming in 2009 that both Smith and Theron were set to reprise their roles. However, the project faced multiple delays due to scheduling conflicts and other challenges, Deadline reported.

In 2012, Berg provided an update on the sequel’s status, stating that moving forward with the film was “a question of timing.” He also mentioned that Smith had an idea for the sequel, and the team was eager to bring it to life.

More recently, in 2020, Theron expressed her enthusiasm for reprising her role, telling ComicBook, “I’ll still make that movie, I would do it in a heartbeat.”
