Spider-Man actor Andrew Garfield has shown interest in playing the character in the fourth installment after surprising fans in Spider-Man: No Way Home, according to Variety.
Unique Vision of Andrew Garfield for his Spider-Man’s Return
At the Middle East Film & Comic Con, through Entertainment Tonight and quoting Variety, the actor explained that his comeback to the Spider-Man franchise depends on a quite “offbeat” thought, and this will also need creative freedom from writers. He mentioned the example of Spider-Verse movies for the same.
“It would have to be very weird. I would like to do something very strange. Something very unique, and offbeat and surprising, kind of like the creative freedom they have with the animated Spider-Verse movies,” said Andrew Garfield as quoted by Variety.
According to the publication, during an interview with Esquire magazine last year, the two-time Oscar nominee revealed he was “left dangling” when his Spider-Man character came to such a sudden end after Amazing Spider-Man 2 flopped at the box office.
The franchise passed to Tom Holland with Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017. However, success from No Way Home showed us there’s room yet for affection towards Andrew’s comic book version.
Andrew Garfield’s Surprise Cameo in No Way Home
Andrew had been rumored to rejoin the franchise prior to the release of No Way Home following leaked clips and images. He still remained mum about taking part, however, to fuel speculation.
It served well as the film was a box office smash across the world thanks to surprise cameos by Andrew and Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man.
In the meantime, Tom Holland’s next Spider-Man installment will start filming this year. Sony Pictures has announced the title of the eagerly awaited fourth installment of the Spider-Man franchise, featuring Tom Holland.
The movie, which is called Spider-Man: Brand New Day, is scheduled for release in cinemas on July 31, 2026.
A Nod to the Comics and No Way Home’s Ending
The Hollywood Reporter says that the news was initially broken on Monday at CinemaCon. Director Destin Daniel Cretton hit the stage to reveal his enthusiasm for taking on the job.
The title, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, is a nod to a 2008 comic book story. It occurs after a universe-shaking event in which everyone forgets who Spider-Man is, the outlet reported. This twist is appropriate, considering the conclusion of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which had the world forget Peter Parker’s identity.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scripted by Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna, who already wrote Spider-Man: No Way Home. Andrew is also rumored to appear in a cameo in the series by the fans.
