Himachal: Kangana Ranaut Retracts Statement on Restoring Farm Laws

Mandi BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has retracted her previous comments advocating for the reinstatement of the three farm laws that were repealed in 2021. She clarified that her views were personal and do not reflect the stance of her party.

In a video posted on social media, Ranaut expressed regret for any disappointment her statement may have caused, emphasizing that her opinions on the controversial laws were not representative of the BJP’s position. The Himachal Pradesh BJP has also distanced itself from her remarks.

In her message, Ranaut stated, “When the farmers’ laws were proposed, many of us supported them. However, with great sensitivity, our respected Prime Minister withdrew those laws. I regret if I disappointed anyone with my words, and I take them back.”

During an event in Mandi district on Tuesday, she noted that protests against the three farm laws occurred mainly in specific states. She remarked, “Farmers are essential to India’s progress. I appeal with folded hands for the farm laws to be reinstated in the interest of farmers.” Ranaut asserted that restoring the laws would promote financial stability and growth for farmers, ultimately benefiting the agricultural sector.

The Congress party criticized her comments, suggesting they indicate the ruling party’s intentions to reinstate the laws, and vowed that Haryana would respond decisively. Ranaut’s remarks come ahead of the assembly elections in Haryana on October 5, a state that experienced significant protests from farmers demanding the repeal of the laws, which were ultimately withdrawn by the Modi government in 2021.
