On Monday, Harris appeared alongside Liz Cheney, a notable Republican who has been vocal against Trump’s influence in the party. Cheney urged undecided voters to “reject the kind of vile vitriol” associated with Trump’s rhetoric. This collaboration underscores Harris’s intent to reach across party lines and appeal to those disillusioned with Trump.
While in North Carolina, Trump toured the damage in Asheville and repeated his conspiracy theories regarding the government’s disaster response. At a rally in Greenville, he intensified his campaign message, portraying immigrants as threats to the nation. His remarks suggested that immigrants were responsible for looting and crime, further polarizing the electorate.
Harris is actively campaigning in critical Rust Belt states—Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin—areas that voted for Trump in 2016 but turned blue for President Joe Biden in 2020. In her speeches, Harris has emphasized the need for unity, encouraging voters to transcend partisan politics and prioritize their shared identity as Americans.
Cheney, who has previously endorsed Harris, expressed a desire to reject the “cruelty” she associates with Trump’s politics. During the campaign, both women have emphasized the importance of defending the rule of law and restoring decency to political discourse.
Trump’s narrative during his North Carolina tour included unfounded claims that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) was redirecting disaster funds to assist undocumented immigrants. Local officials were compelled to issue fact-checks in response to Trump’s statements, which they labeled as falsehoods that could mislead the public regarding hurricane response efforts.
As both candidates work to secure undecided voters, recent polls indicate a close contest. A Washington Post-Schar School survey revealed both candidates at 47% among registered voters in seven battleground states. Despite Harris’s significant campaign spending—over $200 million in September—Trump remains a formidable opponent.
The election landscape is further complicated by tech mogul Elon Musk, who has heavily invested in Trump’s campaign. Musk’s support has included financial backing and leveraging his social media platform, X, to promote Republican viewpoints. His recent promise to award a $1 million prize daily until Election Day has drawn scrutiny from state authorities.
