Gunjan Tilak Raj Soni, an independent director at Zomato, has officially resigned from her position, effective immediately. The decision comes as Soni faces heightened professional obligations, leading to her departure from the online food delivery giant. Zomato disclosed this information in a recent stock exchange filing.

Background and Tenure

Soni joined Zomato’s board prior to its initial public offering (IPO) in July 2021, bringing a wealth of experience to the role. She holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Barkatullah Vishwavidalaya, Bhopal, and a postgraduate diploma in business management from XLRI, Jamshedpur. Currently, Soni serves as the CEO of Zalora Group, a Southeast Asia-focused fashion retailer. Her extensive background also includes senior positions at Myntra, Jabong, Star India, and McKinsey.

Resignation Announcement

In her resignation email, Soni expressed gratitude for her time with Zomato, stating, “I have had a great partnership with the Zomato team and the other Board members over the past 3 years. The need to step down stems from increased professional commitments and was a tough decision.” She also affirmed that she holds no director positions in other listed entities in India and that there are no other material reasons for her resignation aside from those mentioned.

Soni confirmed her exit from the risk management committee and the corporate social responsibility committee as part of her resignation.

Zomato acknowledged Soni’s resignation in its stock exchange filing, noting that she has confirmed no material reasons for her departure other than increased work commitments. The company thanked her for her contributions during her tenure.
