Govt Considers Legislative Measures Against Hoax Bomb Threats, Aiming to Place Perpetrators on No-Fly List

In response to a surge in bomb threats targeting Indian airlines, the government is contemplating new legislative measures to enhance aviation security. Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu announced that the administration aims to place individuals responsible for such threats on a no-fly list.

This announcement comes in the wake of approximately 100 flights receiving bomb threats within the past week. Addressing the media in the national capital, Naidu outlined two primary areas for potential legislative action.

Proposed Legislative Changes

“We have identified two approaches we can explore. First, we are looking at amending the Aircraft Security Rules. One of the proposals is to include individuals responsible for such threats on the no-fly list. Second, we are examining amendments to the Suppression of Unlawful Acts Against Safety of Civil Aviation Act, 1982,” he stated.

The minister emphasized the need for close coordination between the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) and the Ministry of Home Affairs to address the escalating threats. “We are continuously working with the Home Ministry to monitor and respond to these incidents,” Naidu assured.

The recent wave of threats commenced earlier this week when hoax bomb alerts were issued for three international flights operated by Indian carriers, raising concerns about aviation security.
